Question

html form submit using GET method to a jquery thickbox window

Asked by: elitesys

I have a form on my page setup like this:
<form action="BMH_RP_Report_Daily.asp" method="GET" name="form_action" target="_blank" id="form_action">

I also have a submit button setup like this:
 <input type="submit" name="m_button" id="m_button" value="Run Report"/>

I'm usually open a thickbox window like this via a link:

<a href="BMH_RP_Report_Daily.asp?p;placeValuesBeforeTB_=savedValues&amp;TB_iframe=true&amp;height=500&amp;width=785&amp;modal=true" title="" target="_self" class="thickbox">view thickbox window</a>

How can I get my form GET method post to not open a new browser window BUT open a thickbox window while still carrying over the form parameters?

Is this possible?

Regards,
Torrey

Hi elitesys,

Not sure if i'm understanding your question correctly. Do you mean you're trying to submit the form in same window and the parameters still carrying along? Please clarify in details if that is different cases.
Try this:
eg:
<form action="BMH_RP_Report_Daily.asp?p;placeValuesBeforeTB_=savedValues&amp;TB_iframe=true&amp;height=500&amp;width=785&amp;modal=true" method="GET" name="form_action" target="_self" id="form_action">

x-com,

Sorry it took me a few days to get back to this.  I appreciate your response.

You example simply opens the BMH_RP_Report_Daily.asp page in the same browser window while passing the form parameters as it should since I'm using a GET.  I have to hit the browser back button to return to original form.  Even if I add class="thickbox" is still opens the BMH_RP_Report_Daily.asp  in the same window.

I'm trying to submit the form to a thickbox window (window on top of existing browser window) while the parameters (form values) still carry along so they can be used in the newly opened thickbox window.

Regards,
Torrey

Hi elitesys,
>...they can be used in the newly opened thickbox window.
Possible post your thickbox version and browser that you're running there? You may try something like this:
eg:
<form method="GET" name="form_action" id="form_action" onsubmit="javascript:SubmitForm(this);">

<script>
function SubmitForm(objForm){
 var strURL;
 strURL='BMH_RP_Report_Daily.asp?p;placeValuesBeforeTB_=savedValues&amp;TB_iframe=true&amp;height=500&amp;width=785&amp;modal=true';

 objForm.action=strURL;
 objForm.submit();
 objForm.reset();

 tb_show(Test, strURL,images/test.gif);
}
</script>
Note: This script may vary if apply into your real case. You need to amend it based on your requirement

Sorry I have not responded prompty, I left for vacation after you posted and just returned.

I am using Thickbox 3.1 and testing with browsers IE 7, IE 8, FireFox 3.0.  All these browsers have latest updates.

I tried your code and when I submit the form I see the thickbox loading scroller bar appear for a few seconds then the "BMH_RP_Report_Daily.asp" pages loads in the same browser window, not the thickbox.  The parameters are passing so I think you are close in helping me get a solution.

Torrey
