joomla and tables

I would like to add tables to an article and I am wondering what the best and easiest method is. I will not be adding the actual content in the table so it has to be user friendly. I would like the alternate rows to be a different background colour. The column titles are, name, date of hire, and  
years of seniority. If possible, it would be nice if these columns could be filtered for quick access to specific searches.

Is there an extension that allow tables to be easily integrated? What do I need? I would like something that easy to work with.
