The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

php to Access

Asked by keithbraithwaite in PHP and Databases

I finally got an HTML forms file (17 pieces of data, name, address, telephone number etc etc) to put the data into a text file through a PHP interface file. Works fine, though it took me a long time to get there...
Now I'd like to have the PHP file transfer the data to an Access db when someone fills in the HTML forms page (not the data I already have - new data coming in).
I gather I have to configure my W2K ODBC facility?
I'd like the operation to take place on the server - do I have to install Access on the server?
Would it be easier to pull the text file down to my computer and push it into Access some other way?

I found a lot of answers to a query about creating a php to MS Access link on your site - one of which came from carchitect:

<?
$conn = new COM("ADODB.Connection") or die("Cannot start ADO");
$conn->Open("Provider=Microsoft,.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=intouch.mdb");
$query = "insert into trans set transid='{$_POST['transid']}";
$result = mysql_query($query);
$rs->Close();
?>
Is this doing what I want to do? or the opposite?
Do you know of a tutorial that tells you very simply how to get a php file to pur one piece of data into Access? I might be able to take it from there.
That's how I finally figured out how to get my HTML forms data into a text file on the server.
Thanks in advance
Keith
