PHP 5 + MySQL connection

I installed PHP 5.2.4, IIS 6 + MySQL 5.0.26 on a Windows 2003 Stadard Edition. The phpinfo.php file shows that mysql is not loaded. I know that the db is fine; it worked before upgrading from php 5.x to the latest version.
The php.ini file defines

extension_dir = "C:\PHP\ext"
extension=php_mysql.dll

The "php_mysql.dll" file is in the extension folder.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
