The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

SMF hangs on login and logout

Asked by danomatic in PHP and Databases, Apache Web Server, MySQL Server

I have a basic install of SMF and am using version 1.1.4.

It was working fine for the first week but within the past day when I try to login, I either get a blank page or eventually I do get logged in after a long whiie if I click the login button a few times in a row. The same thing happens when I click the logout button.

Once I logged in the forum operates fine and I can navigate through it quite fast, post, reply without errors.

I have tried the various maintenance features that smf has and none have seemed to do any good.

It is on a VPS that I have and I have checked CPU load and it is well within limits.

I have tried changing templates, using the default smf one but that does not seem to make a difference.

I logged in to my WHM control panel and restarted Apache. Once I did this the logging in and out seemed to be fixed but after about 12 hours or so I had the same problems again. The traffic on the forum is very low.

This  problem happens on all browsers and platforms, i have tested.

safari for Mac OS X 10.5 gives me an interesting message sometimes when I can't login:

"the server unexpectedly dropped the connection, which sometimes occurs when the server is busy. You might be able to open the page later."
