The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

PHP 5.2.5 Mysql Connection to Remote Server with PHP 4+

Asked by chrisdpucci in PHP and Databases, MySQL Server

Hello all,

I have a strange issue that just popped up last night due to what I think was an automatic update of PHP on a few of my servers. Basically I have about 7 remote servers that all connect to a centralized database server.

The database is running PHP 4.4.6 and the remote servers run various versions of PHP ranging from 4.4.6 all the way up to 5.2.6.

Up until recently all of the remote servers had no problem connecting to the central server even though they weren't always running the same version of PHP. Yesterday however I noticed that all of my servers that run 5.2.5 or higher can no longer connect to the database server while a server with PHP 5.2.3 can.

So this leads me to believe that something in the update from 5.2.3 to 5.2.5 has changed something in how the connection routine works.

I have searched everywhere though and haven't found anything to resolve the issue yet so I am coming here.

Does anyone have any ideas why the above situation would occur and what I can do about it?

Thanks,
