Should i build my own php forum??

Asked by satmanuk in PHP and Databases

Hi all,

i am in a stage in my web site development where i am debating whether i want a already built php forum or whether to create my own.

I have created what looks to me a fine little forum and it works great!

Obviously building it myself means i can integrate it with my site very easy and make what ever changes i want at code level.

The question i have is, should i be creating my own forum? are there big dangers ahead where i will wish i had used PHPBB or Simple machines Forum and the like.

The problem i have with these already done forums is the complexity of them. It just seems way too much for what i want. Way too many stats etc. I also seem to struggle when implimenting the login with my own alredy built login system.

I hope this isnt too vague. Basically i feel that it was quite easy building a little forum and would like to be able to develope my own to suit my needs. i just wanna be sure its the right move.
