Pagination for PHP script; How do I pass multiple keywords to the next page

Hello,
I am writing a search script in PHP. This script is getting multiple values from checkboxes and text boxes (in a form) and performs a MySql search. Everything works fine. I got this part done. Now I need to paginate the results and I cannot pass all the variables (parameters) with $_GET to the next page. There are too many of them. What would be the best way to accomplish this?
I understand that some people use $_SESSION for this purpose, but the problem is that I don't really understand how to use this and when I tried (not sure if I did it right), I couldn't start another search because the script would "remember" the previous search terms.
I am lost... I would appreciate some help.
