The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. Creating SQL Scripts Procedurally

Experts,

I need to create SQL scripts consisting of many INSERT statements.  These SQL scripts are used to populate MySQL tables.  The SQL scripts are executed via phpMyAdmin.

In some cases the data for the SQL INSERTs comes from flat files that require parsing for the appropriate fields, and in other cases the INSERT data is synthetic (i.e. generated procedurally.)

I've been creating the SQL scripts with PHP, but the remote server I'm using to run the PHP scripts is shared and I only have access to PHP via the web server (Apache), not via the MySQL command line.

The web server has a 20 second time out on PHP scripts, which is far too short a time for some of the PHP scripts to finish.

Can you suggest other ways to run PHP scripts without timeouts?

Also, please suggest other tools, besides PHP, that are commonly used to generate the SQL scripts for populating MySQL tables.  Ideally, these tools use PHP syntax, but don't require a full-blown local installation of Apache, PHP, and MySQL.

Clearly, almost any programming language can be used for this, but I'm looking for something that's specifically designed for database management, and hopefully that uses PHP syntax.
