PHP check if MySQL table exists

I would like to check if a table exists with the word '_applicants' in it.

Tables will be named: 2008_applicants, 2009_applicants, 2010_applicants, etc

I need the function to then echo: <ul><li>2008</li><li>2009</li><li>2010</li></ul>

with the attached code you will get an array $TABLES with the table names.

Close enough - you made a typo - and print_r isn't really perfect. I'll award you the full points for your speedy help but here is the correct solution:

$query = "SHOW TABLES LIKE '%_applicants%'";
$select = mysql_query($query, $db) or die(mysql_error());
while($row=mysql_fetch_array($select))
{
        $tmp = explode("_", $row[0]);
        $TABLES[]=$tmp[0];
}
foreach($TABLES as $value) {
echo $value."<BR>";
}
