Question

PHP5 - child pid 1381 exit signal Segmentation fault (11)

Asked by: allelopath

I have installed PHP5 on RH 9, but its not working
I previously had Apache 2.0.48, MySQL4.0.18, and PHP 4.3.4 all working.

Before the configure would work, I needed to update some rpms, so i did:
# rpm --upgrade libxml2-python-2.5.10-1.i386.rpm libxml2-devel-2.5.10-1.i386.rpm libxml2-2.5.10-1.i386.rpm
warning: libxml2-python-2.5.10-1.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID de95bc1f
(I'm not sure what the warning means)

After extracting php5 to /usr/local/php5.0.0RC1, i do this command:

# ./configure --with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql
The output results of this command are below.

then i do make and a make install, output below as well.

When i try to access a page, like http://localhost/index.php, it shows a blank

In /usr/local/apache/logs/error_log, when starting apache, it looks good:
[notice] Apache/2.0.48 (Unix) DAV/2 PHP/4.3.4 PHP/5.0.0RC1 configured -- resuming normal operations
but an error is noted when i try to bring up a page:
[notice] child pid 1381 exit signal Segmentation fault (11)

I am following instructions at www.php.net/manual/en/install.apache2.php,
Example 3-6, starting at step 9

I added  /usr/local/lib/php to your php.ini include_path
I did this command: libtool --finish /usr/local/php-5.0.0RC1/libs

I have repeated the steps 3 times, doing a make clean for good measure, but the result is always the same.

What can I do?

http://php.dotgeek.org/manual/en/install.apache2.php says:
"""
In your error logs, you may find errors resembling the following:
child pid 16811 exit signal Segmentation fault (11)

Reinstalling Apache using the traditional prefork model (i.e. do not place a --with-mpm=xxx statement when compiling Apache) solves the problem.  In other words, believe the documentation when it tells you that PHP works best with the prefork model.
"""

I don't know what a prefork model, but since i didn't explictly use --with-mpm=xxx, i guess that's what I have now already.

I have to remove php4?
As i said, In /usr/local/apache/logs/error_log, when starting apache, it said:
[notice] Apache/2.0.48 (Unix) DAV/2 PHP/4.3.4 PHP/5.0.0RC1 configured -- resuming normal operations

so i thought apache was ok with this.

/usr/ports/security/php-suhosin

and I deinstalled it and restarted apache. Its been a half-hour now and no Segmentation fault errors :-)
