The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Cannot get PHP and MySQL running together on Server 2003

Asked by GlobexCorp in PHP Installation, PHP for Windows, PHP and Databases

Tags: , ,

Hello all..

Our webserver died this week, and I'm trying to move our intranet over to a new server.  I am very much a beginner and have no idea what I'm doing :) I have MySQL v5 installed on the new server already for another web based application.  My intranet runs on cms made simple, so I need php in place to get it up and running.

Yesterday, I installed v5.2.6 with the installer.  I used a test php page, and it picked it up correctly.  I restored our website, but only a blank page showed up when I visited it.  To try and ascertain the problem, I tried running a fresh install of a cms made simple site to see what would happen.  When it came to the part where it tried to pick up the database, the installer said that mysql was not found on the system.  I removed v5 and put on V4.4.9 - manual install, not sure if I did it right, and couldn't get it to work at all.

This morning I decided to try and get v5 working again, as I'd at least gotten part of the way there.  I deleted v4 and reinstalled v5.  Now, my test page just returns "Invalid access to memory location. " so I'm further away than I ever was..  I don't want to interfere with MySQL as the other application using it is mission critical, and it was already down for a day this week while I built the new server.  Any advice on what to try next would be greatly appreciated!  Start Free Trial
