Question

Port 80 shows listening but when apache tries to start it says can't connect to the port

Asked by: tjc1978

I have installed XAMPP with apache on my windows server 2003. However I cannot get apache to start, it is running as a service (not as a program). I have tried to start it manually via NMS and also thourgh the XAMPP .bat file. Below is the error I get when I start the service with the .bat file, and alos the netstat -ano command.

My German is really poor, so I might be missing something.

I beleive that your windows server machine has already a web server running on port 80... and it might be your Apache which has sarted as a service...

Test connecting with your browser to port :80 (ie, do not indicate the port!). You will see which server is running.

a - It is IIS... change your XAMPP config so that Apache starts on some other port, usually 8000 or 8080. Your service could not start because port 80 was busy with IIS
b - It is Apache. Congratulation, your install dit work!

The issue was that someone before I took over had IIS installed but no website was being used. I unistalled IIS as it was not being used and it is now working.

Thanks
