Ajax and ME charsets

Hi,
I've found this Ajax script integrated with PHP to validate user names availablity from the DB and it works just great with me but it doesn't deal with middle east charsets (i.e : Arabic) I tried to make it workig but i couldn't. Can anyone modify this script so it can deal and validate Arabic names? Files are all included in the zip file. I had to change the files extensions into .txt files because EE doesn't accept extensions like .html or .php or .js. please unzip the .zip file and change the files as follows:
index.txt -> index.html
ajax-test.txt -> ajax-text.php
_ajax.new.txt -> _ajax.new.js
