The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Highly Available Web Server

Tags: IIS
Hello,

We were paying a 3rd party to host our company website but it keeps getting hacked so we are bringing it in-house and the task of deploying it has fallen to me... I need to design a solution to have our website up and running in a secure manner.  I have been given 3 servers that I can deploy the website on and I can purchase more if I need to.  I am not an expert on deploying web servers but I am going to become one in the next coupe of days ;)

The website is a PHP based website that pulls information from a MySQL database.

My initial thought is to use two of these servers as front end servers and put them in DMZ's at two of our corporate offices and have them access the MySQL database on the 3rd server which we will put somewhere on our corporate network.  We have a robust network with over 500mb of bandwidth between our sites so I am not concerned about access times...

What I am unsure of is how to deploy this in the most efficient manner possible,

- If I have both of the front end servers running Windows 2003 SP2 and serve up the pages using IIS which is pulling the info out of the 3rd server is there a vulnerability that I am not taking into consideration?
- Where is the spot that is most likely to give me problems?
- Do I need a 4th server to do database clustering (This is an option for us)?
- Are there things that I should be taking into consideration?
- Is there a Microsoft document on how to deploy web servers in some kind of cluster configuration so that if one fails the website will still be up?
- Is there a way to secure the database so that code cannot be inserted into it?

Sorry for the poorly worded question,
Matt
