I need to perform as fast download as apache

I got big video files in size of tens of megabytes. All I want to know is the fastest way how to perform output of that file like Apache when you request direct for file. I tried readfile but it consume too much memory. Anybody can help with this ???

if this is a unix/linux-box and you have access to it you can create a virtual directory under the web root.,
pointing to the "real" directory in your system that contains the file...

ln -s source target

ln -s /real/path/ /path/under/webroot

Hi fetak,

try using readfile()

it opens a file and sends it straight to stdout. I am not sure how much memory it will consume, but if Zend optimized it correctly it should be very efficient for your use.

You will need to send the correct header to the browser for it to open the right application to play it though.
