can't copy directories

I'm having some trouble with the following code. It will copy the files in siteTemplate but not the directories. Here is the relevant calling code:

$temp = $_POST['siteName']."/";
my_copy( "siteTemplate/", $temp );

and these are the functions called:

Can anyone tell me WHY it doesn't copy the directories inside siteTemplate/ AND how to fix?

I had something very much like this running on my desktop (win2k w/ apache) for testing and all I changed was the path names in the calling lines. Used to be simply:

my_copy( "$DOCUMENT_ROOT/websites/warrantydemo/siteTemplate/", "$DOCUMENT_ROOT/websites/warrantydemo/" . $_POST['siteName'] );

I've tried many different ways - a slash here, slash there, this that and the other things I've started doing some rather silly attempts so I figure I should ask for help. Any suggestions?
