The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

sendmail smrsh piped to php cgi and output to a file in linux

Asked by tekiedude in PHP Scripting Language

Tags: mysql, php, script

Here's the scenario:
E-mail comes into sendmail which pipes the input into a linked php script in /etc/smrsh and saves data into a mysql database. I'd like to keep a log of actions in this script and write them to a logfile.  I'd also like to be able to save the original e-mail to a file if inserting into the database fails.

The php script works without a problem. However, writing to the logfile and saving the e-mail is database fails only works if I run the script from the command line.
ex: ./parser.php < source_email

If the message comes through sendmail, it won't write to the logfile or save the e-mail if db fails.
The permissions are like so:
parser.php 755 mail:mail (owner:group)
logdir 777 (just to test)
savdir 777 (just to test)

sendmail runs as mail:mail

I'm not sure if this is a php question, linux question or sendmail question.
In any case, I'm pretty sure it has something to do with smrsh and permissions, but I'm not sure what the problem is or how to fix it.
Thanks
