I have tried to use .htaccess with
php_value register_globals 0
But the server returns 500 Internal Server Error

To be able to swich that option via .htacces you will need AllowOverride Options to be enabled in your web-server config for that directory
e.g.
<Directory /path/tp/the/directory/wit
AllowOverride Options
</Directory>
