.htaccess to turn off register_global

Hi there,

I want to turn off the register_globals in PHP 4.1 environment

I have tried to use .htaccess with

php_value register_globals 0

But the server returns 500 Internal Server Error

Please help~

The docs say it should be:

php_flag register_globals off

To be able to swich that option via .htacces you will need AllowOverride Options to be enabled in your web-server config for that directory

e.g.
<Directory /path/tp/the/directory/with/the/htaccess>
    AllowOverride Options
</Directory>

I am using other company's hosting
So I cannot do the web-server config

If you can't change the webserver config there will be no way to turn off register-globals by a .htacces. All those tries will lead to that 500 Error.
Try open a support-ticket to get that changed.

It's in an ISP's interests to have register_globals off anyway. If they're being difficult, tell them it's a security hole.
