Hey,
I run a web host, and we are currently trying to look into some way of running PHP4 and PHP5 at the same time, with only .php5 files being parsed by php5, and the rest by php4. I know this can be done, as I have seen references to it on Google, however, I cant find any how-tos or information on how to do that.
Any help will be most appreciated ;)

I've been reading a bit and I don't think it's possible, anyway I'm content with php4, althought I only use php from time to time(am a Java coder). I'm really curious about the major OOP-language change, though.

I guess running php4 and php5 in one apache-config is not possible (I tried to modify the php-source so php5 is executing scripts as application/x-htttp-php5 and php4 as x-httpd-php but that resulted in a seg-fault if a php-request was made). You might run two instances of php within apache and use different ports or use mod_proxy to tunnels to the php4/5-server. See http://wiki.coggeshall.org
Honestly - I haven't worked a lot woth Apache and servers.
I have setup one.
I remember PERL and PHP - you set what xtentions use what programs.
Couldn't you have another line in the config - for php5?
wouldn't that be VERY simple?
Although like i said, im not too familiar.
I jsut remember doing it for my linux server at home.
Easiest solution is to set it up to run CGI mode.
Set one version of PHP to run as a module (eg using libphp4.so)
Set another version of PHP to act as a CGI script.
Using the AddHandler and Action directives could be the solution your after (for the CGI) and just set up the PHP module (for the other one) normally. You can also use AddType to force it to think that its something different to ensure that one doesn't get 'stolen' from the other and they don't fight.
This should work, as your running one as a module, and another as a CGI script.
