global variables

Ive set up an open source CMS application on a web server but I dont have a domain for it yet. The account is running fine except for the fact that I cant change what seem to be two 'global' variables:

THEME_RELATIVE
PATH_RELATIVE

at the moment these variables are replaced from the php script as
/home/public_html/myaccount/whatever instead of the actual path to the directory.

How would I write to these so that it works properly?

You have $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] available.

So you could.
$THEME_RELATIVE = $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'];

or

$THEME_RELATIVE = '/home/public_html/myaccount/whatever';

are they define'd constants or real global variables? there is a real difference between them.

Well, most of the time in such large systems you would have a central configuration or functions library file. In that file you would be able to generate constants such as:

[config.php]
define('ABS_BASE_PATH', dirname(__FILE__));
OR
[lib/functions.php]
define('ABS_LIB_PATH', dirname(__FILE__));
