The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

PHP vs. CGI mailing and getting PHP data into CGI

Asked by sciwriter in PHP Scripting Language, Server Side Includes (SSI)

In a previous Q -- PHP/Q_21459838.html -- I thought it would be easy to get PHP variables from within a CGI application, like  --  @pairs = split(/&/, $ENV{'QUERY_STRING'}); -- but it is more complex than that.

We could run a CGI from PHP with virtual function() -- Squinky, I hope you are there to elaborate on how -- but the main problem is to get PHP session data into CGI variables.  All of this comes about, BTW, because HTML cannot handle nested FORMS or cross variable posting from one form to the other on a page.

So if I plan to keep my original CGI mailing program, it would be a lot easier to just copy the relevant PHP session data from one form area to the next, using Javascript, and then submit that to the CGI program.

What are relative strengths of PHP vs. CGI mail programs?  I've heard the CGI mailer (Perl) is more robust, I'll need to send fully formatted pages to several recipients, and even split some data out to send to other recipients.  Need to use basic CC encryption, and need modest field validation.

If I start from scratch using PHP, does anyone know of any free mail templates to speed up PHP writing?  If PHP mailing is not as reliable as CGI, I need to know before I do this, my CGI has worked flawlessly for years on shared Linux hosting.  If I go PHP, it has to be robust, failure free, and easy to do.  Thx for input.
