The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Debug tools and tools to aid development

Asked by bisonfur37 in PHP Scripting Language

I was wondering if people could chime in regarding tools available to improve PHP development and debugging.  I use Dreamweaver(sometimes I use jEdit) to code PHP and I am very happy with it although there are a couple of things that could make my life easier.  For instance, I remember reading about a debugging capability for Quanta Plus where you set up a server that wraps around the php engine; in any event I have not given it a shot because I don't like quanta that much (my experience has not been favorable).  Also, I remember at some point running into a function some guy created that would output the information about an object (in my case arrays of arrays) in a neat manner that made it easy to 'see' what was going on.  You could say that this function was similar to the cold fusion <cfdump> tag.

So, to make a long story short, I would like to know if anyone has suggestions for tools to improve php development, be it windows or linux.  I guess that the topics below fall inside this category so all input is welcome although I am more interested in debugging and useful utils/functions:
- editor: jedit, dreamweaver
- framework: phplib, PEAR
- debugging:
- other useful utils/functions:
- phpMyAdmin (useful for database work)

Thanks a bunch.
