ParseInt function for PHP

Hi,
I am trying to convert a javascript function to PHP for a project I am working on.
The javascript function uses ParseInt to convert a hex string, but Im not sure of it purpose.
Is there a relevant function in PHP that I can use...here is the javascript:
var Data1 = parseInt(Data.substring(0,8),16)

if you are trying to convert a hex string to its decimal equivalant

hexdec()
