strip tags preg expression (regular expressions)

Hi,

Im using this:
      $allowed = "b|i|u|a";

      $str = preg_replace ( "/<((?!\/?($allowed)\b)[^>]*>)/xis", "", $str );
      $str = preg_replace ( "/<($allowed).*?>/i", "<\\1>", $str );

However allowing the link tag (a href) does not work because its not recognizing the href part.

I want this to filter out EVERYTHING but $allowed tags.
