Does serialize work, or does it fail there already?
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsWhen I serialize something such as
$a[1][2] = 4;
$b = serialize($a);
var_dump(unserialize($b));
the output is
bool(false)
even
$a = "c";
$b = serialize($a);
var_dump(unserialize($b));
returns the same output.
My hosted server recently died and they had to swap everything over to new hardware. I've never seen unserializing items such as those get rejected like this, and I have in the past had no trouble doing this, so I'm wondering if there is something to look for in the php.ini file?
Thanks!

serialize does show up as having gotten a decent amount of chaning in php4

perhaps the most salient is that one version fails in using serialize and unserialize on 64-bit systems (maybe this is a part of your new hardware?)

I recently has a very similar problem. It disappeared a day later and the provider told me that they've upgraded to the next higher PHP release (in this case, PHP 4.4.4). Also, a number of other strange problems went away.
So, I assume that the provider should restart Apache or reboot the box and/or install the latest updates.
