The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Where do i put db ah-hoc functions?

Asked by icb01co1 in PHP Scripting Language

Hi Experts,

Im having my first real play with creating well OOP programs and Im wondering a few things about how best to do things. One of the classes I have is named "Page" which take an ID as a constructor and queries a db to set its relevent fields.  Now im feeling pretty chufed with myself because the page has a template property that loads a "template" object which is then parsed for custom tags and replaced with the result of seperate "component" classes which in turn can contain "plugins". All this guff means that that I can create web pages using global templates and simply assign reusable components or plugins which in comparison to the other rubbish ive knocked out with php is quite a step forward for me.

Now cause my page takes a id as a constructor that assumes that there is this data in the db. What im wondering is should I change this and add my ad hoc db functions to my classes. By this I mean should my page not take an id as a constructor and have several ways of building the class up i.e.

- From a db reference id
- From passed params
- From browser passed params i.e. $_GET[]

Also should my object contain all the add/edit/remove db operations? Right now all the logic in the page class is to do with constructing and displaying the page, should I mix in the db operations too or should this info be in a seperate class, or should I have a seperate simple sunction list for ad-hoc queries?

Basically what I am asking is how do you do it?
