That was the same way I was thinking. But even google.com goes down. Is there a "reliable" way of doing it?

Browse All TopicsI have a script in PHP which I use to check the status of a couple sites I have. This runs as a cron job every couple minutes. One problem I have is that it is located on a home server, which can possibly lose Internet due to the ISP connection.
Is there a reliable way to check for the internet being available?

You could always check before and after your two sites for a site that's likely to be 'always up' like www.google.com
If that fails then most probably it's your connection, not your sites which are down.
