MySQL : Inserting xys's Into another table..

I did that.. it didnt work..

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'desc, numvisits) VALUES ('39', 'Editor Journal', 'Announcements, He' at line 1

Value = Announcements, Help, and Samples

That problem appears to be that you are using "desc" as a column name, but that's a reserved word.  You probably need to put backticks around it:

$sql = "INSERTINTO tbl (col1, col2, `desc`, numvisits) VALUES...";

im realizing that I might run into an issue with the Auto_increment ID...

is there a way I can Xfer the IDs.. then change to auto_inc ?

Not sure what the existing IDs are, but if they are numeric, you can just issue

ALTER TABLE tbl MODIFY id_col INT UNSIGNED AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY;

And it should make the id_col an auto-increment column.

basically.. im transferring a blog system to a new dbase structure ..

and the blog entries had unique auto_inc ids.. the comments are linked to those IDs, as are the Imgs per blog entry...

so.. hmm..

well the existing structure id Auto_INC both on the receiving, and sending.. should I make the receiving NOT AUTO.. then switch?

Use should be able to just use mysql_real_escape_string for each and every field and live happily ever after.

it was .. i had something goophiness in my code I think.. ive not verified yet (by reading out) the image data.. but im 80% sure its good. todays completion should let me know
