Escape it:

INSERT INTO tbl VALUES ('Jack Frost\'s Journal');
or:
INSERT INTO tbl VALUES ('Jack Frost\'s Journal');

by: n8dogPosted on 2007-06-22 at 15:25:57ID: 19345376

I did that.. it didnt work..
$blogmaintitle      = ucwords($blogmainsn).'\'s Journal';

 i found a solution.
mysql_real_escape_string

no sure why the first didnt work

by: todd_farmerPosted on 2007-06-22 at 15:29:30ID: 19345390

Yes, that would work.  Note that this post showed up in the MySQL area, and contained no references to PHP - that's useful information to include for future questions you might post.

Glad you got a solution!

You probably want to use addslashes():

http://us.php.net/addslashes

by: n8dogPosted on 2007-06-22 at 15:41:00ID: 19345434

Didnt solve it. and I applied both functions to the variable/value

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'desc, numvisits) VALUES ('39', 'Editor Journal', 'Announcements, He' at line 1

Value = Announcements, Help, and Samples

by: todd_farmerPosted on 2007-06-22 at 15:44:26ID: 19345450

That problem appears to be that you are using "desc" as a column name, but that's a reserved word.  You probably need to put backticks around it:

$sql = "INSERTINTO tbl (col1, col2, `desc`, numvisits) VALUES...";

by: n8dogPosted on 2007-06-22 at 15:48:26ID: 19345473

im realizing that I might run into an issue with the Auto_increment ID...

is there a way I can Xfer the IDs.. then change to auto_inc ?

by: todd_farmerPosted on 2007-06-22 at 15:51:10ID: 19345489

Not sure what the existing IDs are, but if they are numeric, you can just issue

ALTER TABLE tbl MODIFY id_col INT UNSIGNED AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY;

And it should make the id_col an auto-increment column.

by: n8dogPosted on 2007-06-22 at 15:51:59ID: 19345492

basically.. im transferring a blog system to a new dbase structure ..

and the blog entries had unique auto_inc ids.. the comments are linked to those IDs, as are the Imgs per blog entry...

so.. hmm..

by: n8dogPosted on 2007-06-22 at 15:52:57ID: 19345499

well the existing structure id Auto_INC both on the receiving, and sending.. should I make the receiving NOT AUTO.. then switch?

by: todd_farmerPosted on 2007-06-22 at 15:59:49ID: 19345543

Not sure I follow, could you post the table structure:

SHOW CREATE TABLE tblName;

by: n8dogPosted on 2007-06-22 at 16:03:37ID: 19345571

ohh.. wait i think i was just not reading my tables right.. kinda rushing.

i think i can do it.. i thought i was linking via the auto_inc id.. but that wouldnt makes sense.. ima try to complete the code solution here.. and see if im mistaken..

by: n8dogPosted on 2007-06-22 at 17:31:30ID: 19345998

Now Im stuck on Xfering the Longblog Binary Image Data...  ??

by: tolgaongPosted on 2007-06-23 at 02:05:47ID: 19346952

insert into tabledestination (field1,field2) select field1, field2 from tablesource

by: RoonaanPosted on 2007-06-23 at 02:12:12ID: 19346963

Use should be able to just use mysql_real_escape_string for each and every field and live happily ever after.

by: n8dogPosted on 2007-06-25 at 06:29:33ID: 19355374
