Browse All TopicsHi,
I am designing a live support chat application in flash. I have everything working but one thing that i need some help on.
All the chat messages (back and forth) are saved in the mySQL database and are then loaded with php and sent to flash. so far so good. the problem is that in flash, when i load all the content into the dynamic text box.. i need to give the user the option to scroll up and down through the text. This is difficult because the dynamic text box needs to update every couple seconds so that the latest chat messages are displayed. However, every time that the dynamic text box updates, then the scrollbar is reset to its original position (at the top).
Now, i have already thought of a solution that will make the scrollbar stay at the bottom no matter what allowing the user to see the latest messages posted, however if the user then needs or wants to scroll back up to read previous messages, everytime the dynamic text field updates, it goes all the way to the bottom. lol
I was wondering if anyone knew how to approach this problem.

If I understood correct - the text area is inside flash. If so, you have textarea.vScrollPolicy and textarea.vPosition properties.
