The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

I am an environmental activist, and am creating a website that can be used (among other things) to publish the findings of environmental assessments.

At the page http://www.speakingoftheotways.net/issues/phytophthora_yaugher_map_b3.php you will see a map image depicting an area of woodland that is being carved up by bike riders. I'm photographing the damage, and outbreaks of a plant disease being spread by the riders.  (I'm not picking on kids here; we're talking about 50km of tracks through an ecological wonderland, constructed with backhoes.)

My challenge right now it that in a single day of survey work, I collect hundreds of photographs. I categorise these into a nested folder hierarchy on my PC that has folders for  'site', 'track' &  'date'. I'll also have a database that records this information, plus the map names, plus the file names.

What I need is a system that allows me to automatically reconcile the contents of the images folder on my web server with the contents of the image folders on my PC. (I also intend to have it create several different resized versions of the images as it goes, but I've seen code that should not be too hard to adapt.) I will then get php to automatically generate thumbnail lists of the images, which when clicked open a zoomed image to reveal the evil ways of those dastardly mountain-bikers. (In future of course this will be applied far and wide to the practices of environmental vandals.)

That way, I can come back from the field. Dump my photos to my PC. Put them in the appropriate folder. Go through them and adjust exposure etc of each. And hey presto! update the website.

Any thought on the best approach to this will be most welcome. The possums,  bandicoots and wallabys  will count you in their prayers I'm sure.

(By the way; the maps are not a true GIS maps. I create then in Adobe Illustrator for now. True GIS will be wonderful when I find the time to get my head around it some time in the far distant future. I manually create hyperlinked image maps on the map-photos that open the photo pages.)

Thanks
