The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Fopen read all files with similar name

Asked by MrBaseball9 in PHP Scripting Language

I have a program that FTPs a file up to a web directory every 5 minutes.  The filename is always labeled "test03112008092346.dat"  where the value after the word "test" is always a timestamp of the files creation date.

I've set up a cron to rename the file "test*.dat" to just  "test.dat", then have the cron execute a php script, using fopen to read "test.dat" and insert its data into a mysql database. I then delete the files. I was running my cron every 3 minutes so that I'd never get two files in the directory at the same time.

Well, something happened and two files managed to get in.  Whether the FTP program uploaded 2 files, or the cron just didn't run.  Since my cron didn't know what to do with two files, it freaked, and no data was ever inserted, no files were ever deleted, and I come in on monday morning w/ 2100 files that all need inserted into a database.

I'm looking to see if I could modify my php script to find all files in a directory that are similar in name, (test*.dat) and run on all files.  I think this would fix my problem since I could set my cron up to just move the files rather than rename them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  If you need more info, let me know.Start Free Trial
