The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

php mail() from tag strips spaces out of names

Hi,

I'm fairly new to PHP and I'm trying to get an email form working.  I've got the form posting to a separate php processing page, but when the email is sent, I'm having trouble with the "From" header stripping names out of names.  Is there any way to fix this? (Note $firstname, $lastname, $email. $message_body, $to & $subject are all pre-defined higher up in my code, but the file is too big to include everything!

<?PHP
....
      $fromname = "$first_name $last_name";
      echo $fromname;
      $headers = "Date: ".date('r')."\r\n";
      $headers .= "Reply-To: " . $email . "\r\n";
      $headers .= "Return-Path: ".$email."\r\n";
      $headers .= "From: ".$fromname."\r\n";

      $message = $message_body."\r\n\n\n (submitted to " . $to_name . " via obuuc.org)\r\n";

      /* and now mail it */
      if(mail($to, $subject, $message, $headers)){

?>
            <h1>Thank You!</h1>
            <BR>
            Your email has been sucessfully submitted.
            <br><a href="http://www.obuuc.org">Click here</a> to return to the OBUUC Web site.
<?PHP
      }
      else{
?>
            <h1>Sorry!</h1>
            <BR>
            There was a problem sending your email, please call us and let us know.
            <br><a href="http://www.obuuc.org">Click here</a> to return to the OBUUC Web site.
<?PHP
      }
}
?>

Everything is fine, but when the email is received, there is no space between the first and last name in the email message.  In my echo it shows the space!  It's like the mail() function strips out all of the spaced.  Ideally I would like the message to have "From" appear something like this:

John Doe <john@doe.com>, but even just having "John Doe" show up would be enough!

Thanks,
