The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Suexec: SuexecUserGroup had no effect
Hello,

ive enabled suexec mod and when i use:
<?
system("id -a");
?>
it returns nobody user's details.

i used "SuexecUserGroup ckers ftp" in <VirtualHost> but it had no effect and user is still nobody ...

if you check phpinfo at http://cke.rs/info.php you will see that it uses nobody user instead of ckers.

VirtualHost looks like this:

<VirtualHost 74.53.76.130:80>
    ServerName cke.rs
    ServerAlias www.cke.rs
    UseCanonicalName Off
    DocumentRoot /home/ckers/public_html
    ServerAdmin glmr_glmr@hotmail.com
    UserDir disable
    php_admin_value sendmail_path "/usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i -f accounts@cke.rs"
    php_admin_value sendmail_from "accounts@cke.rs"
    SuexecUserGroup ckers ftp
    php_admin_value SMTP "mail.cke.rs"
</VirtualHost>

What could be solution for above ?

Thanks, Vladimir

Your web server runs with credential of user nobody in group nodody.
I think you misinterpreted what suexecusergroup does: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/mod_suexec.html

The PHP page is not seen as a CGI.  Put the info.php page into the cgi-bin directory and you may see the ckers returned.
You need to add to your virtualhost
ScriptAlias  /cgi-bin/  /home/ckers/cgi-bin

Hi,
thanks for your help, i'm getting now this lines in suexec_log:

[2008-03-28 13:09:36]: uid: (50/ckers) gid: (50/50) cmd: info.php
[2008-03-28 13:09:36]: cannot run as forbidden uid (50/info.php)

help ?

03.28.2008 at 06:29AM PDT, ID: 21230175
See
[2008-03-28 13:09:36]: uid: (50/ckers) gid: (50/50) cmd: info.php
[2008-03-28 13:09:36]: cannot run as forbidden uid (50/info.php)

suexec worked.  Changed user/group to ckers/ftp.

info.php is not a command that can be executed by the CGI-BIN handling.  PHP is interpreted by the server.

you can try the following in the cgi-bin info.cgi with the following content.
#!/usr/bin/perl -w
my $id=system ("id -a");
print "$id\n";

03.28.2008 at 07:05AM PDT, ID: 21230479
same thing :(

[2008-03-28 14:04:09]: uid: (32005/ckers) gid: (50/50) cmd: info.cgi
[2008-03-28 14:04:09]: cannot run as forbidden gid (50/info.cgi)

pretty weird ...

03.28.2008 at 07:11AM PDT, ID: 21230522
The error refers to the Group id.  Try the suexec group as nobody and see if you have the same error for either file.

03.28.2008 at 07:16AM PDT, ID: 21230569
it writes:
[2008-03-28 14:15:50]: uid: (32005/ckers) gid: (99/99) cmd: info.cgi
[2008-03-28 14:15:50]: cannot run as forbidden gid (99/info.cgi)

03.28.2008 at 07:24AM PDT, ID: 21230652
try without a group or use the same group of which ckers is a member.

03.28.2008 at 07:34AM PDT, ID: 21230765
if i try without any group apache says:
SuexecUserGroup takes two arguments, User and group for spawned processes

and i tried with ckers/ckers before but problem is following:

error: target uid/gid (32005/32007) mismatch with directory (32005/50) or program (32005/50) or trusted user (0/10)
uid: (32005/ckers) gid: (32007/32007) cmd: info.cgi

To which group does ckers belong?
ls -la in ckers home directory?
I think the suexec is supposed to run as root not with user credentials.
Try using other for the group.
