The Solution Rating System
|
|
| With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating. - The Grade of the Solution
- The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
- The Number of Author and Expert Comments
- The Number of Experts Contributing
- The Feedback of the Community
Your Input Matters Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site. If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support. Thank you! |

Asked by termlimit in PHP Scripting Language
I am currently validating form fields at the page level or through the respective class and it works well. The question I have though is there a better way to do this. I currently have a simple function that checks the min length, max length, strips out any irregular characters, and removes all, but certain tags. This is a time consuming process as each page needs to be processed individually and the output displayed for the user on the original form or the form to be submitted if the form processed.
An example is attached. The forms would each have something like the $check_first is shown. This would simply go through and check the fields for proper input. For example a login name should only have numbers, letters, and possibly a couple of special characters. The check _string function will do just that.
This just seems like a very time consuming coding process in order to achieve a very simple end state. If any one has a better way to create a user validation sequence that can affect the form that was posted to it I would be appreciative.
Thanks.

// Check for post
if(isset($_POST['submit'])) {
// Check string -> field name, field, min length, max length, tags
$check_first = $class->check_string("first name", $_POST['first_name'], 3, 25, "");
if($check_first != TRUE) {
// Show the message to the user
$u_first = $class->msg;
// Change the font color to highlight the field
$f_style = "color:#FFFFFF";
}
