Question

Complex mp3 files stream and download on a web page

Asked by: cakirfatih

Hi experts,

I have mp3 recordings that i would like to enable stream and download from our website.
Our website is built with php and runs on an Apache server.

I want to display the web page like below

track no        track name          Listen            Download
01                     xxx                    link                   link
02                     yyy                    link                   link
...                        ...                     ...                     ....

the structure of my mp3 files is follows:
1- I will have 10 names (folders) having recordings of the same tracks.
2- track numbers and track names are always the same
3- under each name(folder) we will have different number of tracks, between 1 and 100
4- download link may look like   www.example.com/recordings/name1/01.mp3 . we can enable the download at this page or redirect to another page for download
5- not sure on how to do the stream option.

i would like to have my main page list all the names and go to the above web page based on the clicked name.

I would appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Those are all just simple links like --

<a href="/quran/15">AbdulBari ath-Thubaity</a>
<a href="/quran/24">Abdullah Ali Jabir</a>
<a href="/quran/40">AbdulWadood Haneef</a>

In each directory, like 15, 24, 40, is a series of links like in the code snippet below --

You can see all that in your browser by going to the page, and choosing VIEW -- PAGE SOURCE, or VIEW - SOURCE

Just duplicate that design, using your own files and directories, and you should be OK,.

<tr>
<td>1</td>
<td><a href="/sura/1">Surat Al-Fatiha</a></td>

<td><img src="/imgs/stream.gif">( <a href="/stream.m3u/4103">mp3</a> )</td>

when you click each MP3 link a window will pop up asking if you want to play this or download it to the hard drive -- remember THAT choice depends on each person's browser settings -- you cannot control how the user plays or saves the file from your website, it is up to them what they want to do

thanks for your reply,

well there are more than 30 names on this website, having 114 mp3 tracks under each name.
do you think all that programing done manually for each name.
i mean writing this code for each track
<tr>
<td>1</td>
<td><a href="/sura/1">Surat Al-Fatiha</a></td>

<td><img src="/imgs/stream.gif">( <a href="/stream.m3u/4103">mp3</a> )</td>

</tr>
<tr>
<td>2</td>
<td><a href="/sura/2">Surat Al-Baqara</a></td>
<td><img src="/imgs/stream.gif">( <a href="/stream.m3u/4105">mp3</a> )</td>

Yes, they manually constructed each of those pages with all those links, I checked them.  If you want to simplify it, skip the first page, and just put the NAME you want each MP# to be known as, and make that NAME a link, e.g. --

<A href="mp3/surat.mp3">Surat Al-Fatiha </A>

that way you can put ALL MP3 files in a single folder on the server called "mp3" which sits under the main root of the website (usually public_html) and you are done.  See the "mp3/" preceding the file name above?  That is telling it that the MP3 file is located in the folder "mp3".   Always use lower case for web file names and folders.

thanks again for your reply,

to simplify this , is there a way we can carry each name as a parameter when it is clicked at the main page, and then construct the links using that parameter.

such as when clicked on NAME22 , the links on the detail page will be like

track1        trackname1       exampledomain\mp3folders\name22\001.mp3

i hope i am able to explain this.

thanks

you either have to do it in javascript, or with a FORM that submits to PHP or ASP page to deliver the right MP3 file.
