If statement with php

I am using a wordpress template and want to make an if statement in page.php.

I am trying to write an if statement that if the page id of the wordpress blog page is 57 then write this. Else just write this.

I'm not sure how to make it work as I'm new to php.

Here is my code:

please try to use:

if (condition) { code_if_true } else { other_code }

instead of
if (condition) : code_if_true ; else : other_code ;

It doesn't look like there's anything wrong with your code visually, what exactly isn't working?

Thank you for your posts. I am now making it work by doing the code below.

The only problem I have here is that the_ID(); won't pull anything. I think it has to be inside the main wordpress loop but am unsure how?
