Question

Why is this code not finding my database record?

I am using Wordpress MU (Multi  User) and I have my server setup to work with wildcard subdomains.

I have confirmed that the $subdomain gets a value by echoing it to the screen. I think the problem is in my IF statement. (see attached code)

For example, if I have a user_login called "johndoe" and someone enters http://johndoe.mydomain.com in the url location it is suppose to then redirect the user to the proper address which is http://johndoe.mydomain.com/wpmu except it does not.  

What am I doing wrong?

I ran this code on my system.  Different URLs obviously will give different results.

With http://laprbass.com/RAY_temp_subdomain.php I get string(8) "laprbass"

With http://www.laprbass.com/RAY_temp_subdomain.php I get string(3) "www"

Presumably with http://foobar.laprbass.com/RAY_temp_subdomain.php I get string(6) "foobar"

And just a note - after line 28 you want to add "exit;" so the script stops after the header("Location")

Erm, If this is what you mean... Someone logs in and goes to username.website.com then it should redirect them to username.website.com/wpmu
Then...

Thanks Ray.

My friend has come back and now changed how he wants to do this which means dropping the database.

But it is still not working.  Is the problem because I am putting this code into the header of the index.php file which is the file we use for all the pages?

ITGaWD - yes that is want I mean. But I get this from the $subdomain code which works.

no, this was part of a Joomla page and Joomla has a built in cache configuration. Once I turned it off everything started working fine including the code where I used the database.
