PHP email sending proble using sendmail on ubuntu server

Hi,

we are trying to send an email using the mail() function in PHP on ubuntu server with apache as web server. however we are getting an error as /usr/sbin/sendmail failed to send an email. Can you please help us in solving this problem.

If we are running the same code to send an email on windows machine with SMTP configuration set in phpi.ini its working fine

If it is required to configure the sendmail on ubuntu server please tell which parameters are required to set sendmail and what to set where.
