It must depend of the encoding of the input string. Are you using utf8 ?

Browse All TopicsI am trying to convert curly quotes from Microsoft Word into normal quotes using PHP. So far a number of blogs I've found on the web have suggested doing what's in the snippet, but none of the examples work. Even if I run echo(chr(145)) which they reckon is a quote in ASCII format, it returns a completely different character.
Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Fixed - had to change default character set in php.ini file to UTF-8.
