and then there are news articles which seem to automatically change
how is this done

also
does the owner of the site get paid when user clicks on 'news article' for yahoo or reuters or cnn

The articles are syndicated content, usually an xml feed like RSS, from sites such as goarticles.com. Does the site owner get paid for click thoughs? No, the site owner gains the advantage of fresh content.

No the owner does not get paid when the user click on the article as said by @v2Media but the owner gets paid if the user clicks on google ads
