Forgot password script how to change the password?

Hello experts I am trying to make a forgot password script using this example http://www.plus2net.com/php_tutorial/php-membership2.php
everything is working fine until i go to the activepassword.php from the link in my e-mail the link is fine with the right nickname and pkey but after trying to submit a new password i get "Wrong activation" How can i find out what makes the if statement fail? its the right db name and the pkey does = the $ak nicknames are right there is a $tm and status is pending.. plz help
