The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Dynamically create page names in address bar of browser

Asked by schott19 in Web Languages/Standards

Hi,

I have several pages whichare basically the same except for certain parts of text i.e. a city name.  At the moment i have a url like  www.domain.com/showcityinfo.aspx?townid=23

The showcityinfo.aspx will get the town name linked to the id of 23 and substitute bits of text to be the actual town name i.e. Nottingham

So, what i really want is for the address bar to display www.domain.com/Nottingham_City_Information.aspx (this needs to be what the search engines see as well :o) )

I know i could generate a seperate page for every city but this is stupid (surely?). I know that i can use the 404 redirect to lookup the id (as explained at http://www.asp101.com/articles/wayne/extendingnamesaspx/default.asp) and use server.transfer so that the address bar wil display the text but im concerned about my web logs saying 'bad page requests' every time the url is entered (as in reality it doesnt actually exist?)

I just need to be pointed in the right direction either by link or instruction as to the best way of doing this (or someone to tell me that the above 'is' the best way of doing this).

The intention is mainly to make my pages more crawlable by search engines by avoiding the ?'s and &'s in my url and replacing it will relevant keywords for the dynmaic page...

All help is appreciated.

Cheers

Dave

PS i need the samples / links, etc to be in VB.NET is possible (i can convert the c# but its a bit shaky)  ;o)Start Free Trial
