The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

RPC over HTTP - Certificate error

Asked by edz_pgt in Secure Socket Layer (SSL) & HTTPS, Miscellaneous Security, Windows Vista

Tags: , ,

Trying to configure a client's network for RPC over HTTP, I manage to get my own Vista laptop to synchronize. However, in the process I ran into an error:

"Microsoft Office Outlook : There is a problem with the proxy server's security certificate.
The security certificate is not from a trusted certifying authority. Outlook is unable to connect to the proxy server <server_name>.<domain_name>.co.uk. (Error Code 18)."

This seemed to stop me connecting. I played with the settings, re-installed the certificate and then noticed that it no longer prompts with this error - it just works.

So, I move on to configure the same user account on one of the client's laptops. Problem is, I'm now getting that error again and I can't seem to get rid of it. I've noticed that Outlook will still synchronize, but I'm not sure if this is because it is physically connected to the LAN where the server resides.

The certificate does appear to be installed correctly. It appears in the trusted root certificates list and like I say, it does actually work apart from this message popping up each time the user loads Outlook.

Any ideas why I'm getting the error, or what I can do to get rid of it? Also, is it only working because that machine is on-site and connected via the LAN?
