send "XML as string" as return value from a Webservice method

I have a method in webservice which returns a *string*.  This *string* is actually an XML. Now, when I receive this xml string, it converts all "<" to &lt; I think this behavior is normal. But is there any way to receive the XML string as is. Basically Is there any way to embed this XML string into the WSDL response? I am using AXIS2 on Tomcat 6.  Please help.

Do you mean I add/append "![CDATA[" before my xml text on webservice side?

no, you will not get ![CDATA[ into your string..
You will get complete xml..

Strange. You could base64 encode it then just treat it as a string

i have tried encode as you had mentioned in previous thread without any luck. basicalll all i want is a response from wsdl with "<" not converted to &lt; !

You can't transmit things in cleartext like that - it's simply not possible. Here's something that's similar. It's in a different language but that's not important:
