The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Transparent PNG's in IE6

Asked by CreativewithTechnology in Extensible HTML (XHTML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)

I've done some research on this issue this morning, and so far I can't find a solution.

I have a number of DIV's, LI's, and links with background images set, as well as repeat and the background position. As we all know, IE6 doesn't like transparent PNG's, so I've tried numerous fixes such as the .htc file fix, and a javascript pngfix.js, neither of which resolve the problem.

I have a number of problems, especially with the.htc fix;
Firstly, I have hidden navigation on the left of the site, where the DIV's visibility is set to 'none' until the user wants it to be visible. When I implement the .htc fix, the <li>'s within the hidden DIV suddenly become visible and appear over the top of everything else.

The other issue, is that using the .htc fix seems to remove the repeat and position from the background of DIV's etc, meaning the whole layout of the site is completely knackered.

My initial investigations lead me to believe that there isn't actually a solution to this problem, other than removing the background image of the page when IE6 is the browser, this way, the transparent PNG's are no longer needed. Then we can let IE7 operate as normal. I've found various fixes, but not that respect the repeat and position options on backgrounds.

Is there a solution, or do I need to look at modifying the site to cope with this issue?Start Free Trial
