How can I word-wrap text in an input field

guys, I would like to word-wrap text in an <INPUT> field but can't figure out how to do it. I know I could use textarea but I would also like to use the maxlength attribute and that does not allow that for textarea. Could anyone please propose a solution to this

It's no possible to do with the INPUT control.

You have to use the textarea.

No HTML control will wrap the text.

Citation from the HTML 4.01 standard (http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/interact/forms.html#text-input):

The  INPUT element creates a single-line input control and the  TEXTAREA element creates a multi-line input control.

So, the answer is that word-wrapping is not possible in input element. You can check the length of the textarea input via JavaScript, if you want.
