You can always request that the points be lowered at any time, by clicking the request Attention link.
Just remember that it is not really fair to change the points value based on the correct repose.
If the question is worth 500 points for a full explanation, then it is still worth 500 points if the answer is "You can't do that".
For example, many experts (not me) will only look at 500 point questions, because of the high point value.
So if you try to lower the points, you may have some angry experts on your hands.

But in this case, I have no issue with you requesting that the points be lowered.
I reply to questions because I am interested in them, not for any points.

Not that I know of.
(At least with standard Excel or web browser functionality)
