Creating a top navigation bar with uniform height, vertically aligned text and images, and gradient

Hi,

I need some help to create a navigation bar. For a photoshop example of what I am trying to achieve, have a look at the top, horizontal navigation bar in this png:

I have made some progress, and you can view my efforts so far here:

I am not sure if the approach I am using is ideal, and I am having problems placing the image in the right-most navigation item so it fits nicely (see png template above). Also, the image is currently not of the correct size (will fix this later), but I would like to force its size with CSS.

The gradient solution I am using is taken from alistapart.com:
