VC++ 6.0 and XML advice

I need some briefing on the usage of XML in MS VC++ 6.0, NT 4.0 IE5.5 development environment and Win2000 deployment. The XML requirements in this application are very limited and through perusing MSDN, its examples have given me enough information to initiate a solution. However, some questions remain unanswered. I have noted that most of the MSDN examples reference #import msxml3.dll (and even msxml4.dll). I installed the XML SDK 3.0 on my NT 4.0 machine but no dll was installed. I currently use the default msxml2.dll that, I assume, comes with the IE5.5. Do I need the XML SDK 4.0 download? The other question involves determining which existing functions allow parsing the stream of xml data. Using the IXMLHTTPRequest class, how does one parse the XML data (which is returned from a IXMLHTTPRequest->responseText) to extract specific tagged data? Thanks.
